Dough
Combine 3/4 cup instant coffee with 1 cup water. Stir into 2 cups of flour and 1 cup of salt. Mix dough into a ball. Knead ball on a floured surface until all ingredients are smoothly mixted.
Roll Dough
Roll dough on floured surface with a rolling pin. Roll dough about 1/4" thick and cut out designs with cookie cutters. Or, cut around template made from freezer paper with a craft knife.
Bake Dough
Bake dough on cookie sheets in a 325 F oven for about 40 minutes. The dough will be hard to the touch. Some of the larger cookie designs may need additional baking time.
Use Caution
Use caution when removing items from the oven! Let cookies cool before removing from the cookie sheet with a spatula. Wipe off any flour with a damp cloth. Trace pattern on dry cookie with white graphite paper if desired.
Paint Designs
Paint designs with dimensional paint. Sprinkle with clear glitter if desired. NOTE: Assemble G. bread houses with hot glue before decorating. Let paint dry.
Assemble Projects
Follow directions. Use hot glue to glue g. bread on projects. TIP: you may glue ribbons or wire loops on ornaments or make holes with a toothpick before baking.
Special Tips
Omit coffee from recipe to create a white dough. Color of gingerbread is lightened by using less coffee. Cookies will puff slightly when baked.
Creative Tips
Use a slotted or phillips screwdriver, a toothpick or other items to imprint designs in dough before baking.
Wash - dilute paint with water until it is almost transparent. Apply paint in one stroke with a flat brush.
Stir roses - dilute paint with water, paint background circle. Paint spiral fine lines with darker colors on liner brush.
Float dip a 1/2" flat brush in water. Blot on paper towel, leaving some water in brush. Dip one side in paint. Stroke up and down and palette until color graduates to clear water on one side. Paint.
Stipple using an old brush or a sponge, pounce color on an area repeatedly.
