I really found out by trial and error that I could use that HEAVY red machine for embossing folders and now the spellbinders. When I use the embossing folders, I put the cardstock between the folder, you have to use the magnetic spacebar, and slide it through longways. I usually slide it a little ways, push it forward a little and do it again. I think it takes about 3 continuous swipes. To use the spellbinders, it is a little bit trickier(?). I use the spacebar, the white/clear plastic mat that came with the sizzix, then I found if I used 2 layers of foam cut to the size of the mat, plus a piece of card stock (8 1/2x11) folded into thirds. I put the piece of cardstock paper onto the white plastic mat, place the spellbinder facedown on the paper, layer all the rest, and proceed like above. Most of the spellbinders are a size that you only have to cut it once like a sizzix die. I had to practice with this till I got the right combination of thickness. Another thing I have also used (when I misplaced my foam) was an older mouse pad - I think I just folded it in half. If the thickness isn't right, you will end up with a half cut and maybe just an imprint of the rest. Like I said - it took some practice to get what worked best. I'm the worse person for writing directions, so I hope you can make out what I'm saying. If not - ask again, and I'll try and do a better job. Good luck and let me know how you made out.
