Glad to help in any way I can. I saw someone on the HGTV board post a card about 3 years ago and was so taken by it so I wrote and asked her what it was called and how did she do it. She sent me a couple of patterns and told me it was iris folding. I googled it and found various sites that explained it and thats how I started. The thing about iris folding, you are working from the back side of the card which really confused me at first. I actually thought they had the instructions wrong! For paper - I use anything that folds. I have used pictures from magazines, calendars, oragami paper and scrapbook paper, florist ribbon, crinkly ribbon. The nice thing about the ribbon is that you don't have to fold it so there is no bulk to the card - the same with oragami paper, when you fold it , it is still light weight. The directions usually call that you fold the paper in half - I dont because again for the bulkiness, so I just fold a little bit (maybe 1/8 - 1/4 inch), I have never checked youtube, but there may be instructions there as well. As for patterns, you can register on either circleofcrafters.com or worldofcrafters.org and you can get patterns as well. Let me know if I can help you. It is addicting. I've got more cards made then I know people to send them to.
